He says this about the works on display: This show consists of paintings that consider the value of traditional work and the wonderful language of nuance achieved by bending the rules of traditional painting. I deeply admire the old masters, and have spent a long time considering what qualities of their paintings are truly invaluable to me. In order to discern these qualities more exactly, I made this series of paintings. Here are the essentials of painting as I see them – essentials that are often thrown out as an excuse to get to a message. Meanwhile, the things that I muse about when I wander through a painting are often the things that matter most to me.
