Our Ministries

Our diversity is very broad as we reach out to not only the Greater San Antonio area and our Archdiocese, but to all of Texas and beyond.


Christian Formation

Education for all ages, helps us to mature to the measure of the full stature of Christ.

Adult Sunday school includes various topics and presenters.

Inquirers' Classes are held every year for adults and older teenagers who want to learn more about the Episcopal Church. The classes prepare candidates to be confirmed or received.

There are Sunday school classes for children ages zero through high school with separate classes for various ages as appropriate.  A Visitor's Orientation occurs periodically during the Sunday School hour to provide information about our parish.

Discovery Day is the culmination of the Confirmation and Inquirers' classes. Open to the whole congregation, the day-long session is an opportunity for friendship, joy and a deeper relationship with Christ.

Bible Study is conducted once a week at the Air Force Village I and at the Air Force Village II retirement communities. 

The Spiritual Gifts Sunday School series helps one discover, exercise and develop the gifts given by the Holy Spirit at baptism to build up the body of Christ -- the Church.

The Tract Rack is a collection of Christian pamphlets and literature. A display is located in the narthex. Literature may be purchased there at any time for a nominal fee.

Youth groups for high school and middle school meet regularly to share their lives with each other and with Christ. Fellowship, worship, study, and service are part of the program.

Nursery care for children of various ages is available on Sunday mornings and for most parish activities.

The Net, our newsletter, is published monthly to report the events, programs, and accomplishments of St. Andrew's parishioners.

Children Chapel for those three years through third grade offers the Sunday lessons on a child's level through song, dance and celebration during adult services. Children rejoin their families for communion.

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts meet regularly at St. Andrew's.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pastoral Care

Ministries focus on sharing God's love by tending to the spiritual and emotional needs within our parish.

Hospital and Nursing Home Visitors are trained to bring Christ's community to patients who cannot attend church services.

Last Things: Your funeral is the most personal service you will experience. Let us help you plan the details ahead of time and keep them in our fireproof safe.

The Labyrinth Guild provides access to this walking prayer path on various occasions and provides guidance to enrich your experience.

Community Lay Eucharistic Ministers share Holy Communion with on Sunday afternoons with our ill and homebound parishioners.

Teams of lay readers celebrate Evening Prayer at Mariner Nursing Home every Sunday.

Sunday Morning Prayer Teams pray for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing during and after communion.

Daughters of the King

Daughters of the King pray daily for every member of the parish by name and for those with special needs. The Daughters are committed to a deepening relationship with God and to His service in the home, church and community. They meet the third Sunday of the month during the Sunday school hour in the education building.

 

 

Worship

Central to our expression of faith, so there are many ministries dedicated to praising God.

Altar Flower Guild arranges flowers for each Sunday service and other special occasions.

Altar Guild teams prepare the church for each service by caring for the sanctuary, vessels, linens and vestments. They also coordinate the seasonal decorations. p> Acolytes are young persons and adults who serve God by assisting the clergy during worship services.

Lectors assist the clergy by reading the lessons at services.

Lay Eucharist Ministers are licensed by the church to administer the wine at services of Holy Communion.

The Adult Choir provides music for Sunday services and other occasions.

Children's Choir, for members in second grade or older, meets regularly and sings periodically during Sunday services and at other times.

Shekinah is a instrumental and vocal group which leads and performs contemporary music.

Oblationers are members of the St. Andrew's family who volunteer to bring forward the bread, wine, and water at the offertory.

Eucharistic Ushers serve by graciously directing each person to the Lord's supper. 

 

Outreach

Ministries focus on sharing God's love by service to the community outside of our parish.

The Hunger Committee obtains food, prepares food boxes and coordinates distribution for people in need. They also conduct monthly Hunger Luncheons to raise funds to purchase food.  We host Blood Drives quarterly in the parish hall.

Our church is involved in HABITAT for HUMANITY.

 

Evangelism

Ministries focus on sharing God's love with those outside the Body of Christ and inviting them to be a part of the Body.

First Sunday Ministers (Greeters) welcome people coming to worship services and invite visitors to sign the guest book. They give tours of the church, accompany newcomers to the coffee hour, and help in any way they can.

A Visitor's Orientation occurs weekly during the Sunday School hour to provide information about our parish.

The Cursillo community focuses on bringing the world to Christ, one friend at a time.

Ushers greet people as the come to worship, hand out Sunday bulletins, take up the offering, assist people to receive communion, and tidy the pews after each service.

 

Community Life

Plans and supports activities that build up Christian fellowship.

Dinners for Eight is a round robin fellowship experience that allows participants to get to become better acquainted in a small group setting.

The Hospitality Committee coordinates parish receptions, parties and dinners. The committee plans, gathers and serves refreshments for these events.

The Men's Fellowship Group meets monthly for fellowship on the fourth Saturday of the month from 4 - 6 p.m. at the homes of various members.

Parish Retreats are offered periodically to renew and refresh our lives in Christ. Programs are intergenerational and usually held at Camp Capers in the Texas hill country.

The Wedding Guild assists couples being married at St. Andrew's. 

 

Stewardship

All that we do with all that God has given us all of the time.

Book of Remembrance records donations given to the glory of God in memory of loved ones or to commemorate special events or in thanksgiving.

The Gardening Committee beautifies our grounds by planting and maintaining St. Andrew's gardens.

The Kitchen Committee maintains and stocks the kitchen with supplies.
